Vol. 124 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Córas Iompair Éireann Fares and Rates.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) whether Córas Iompair Éireann bus and train fares, and road freight and goods train rates are to be increased in the near future; (b) whether such increases are due to wage increases payable by the company, and (c) the total yearly cost of remuneration paid by Córas Iompair Éireann before the coming into operation of the Transport Act, 1949, and the corresponding estimated cost for the year 1951.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Éireann that it is their intention to increase their passenger and freight charges to meet increases in operating costs, the principal of which is in respect of wages. The total cost of remuneration paid by Córas Iompair Éireann for the 12 months ended 31st May, 1950, was £6,805,642. An estimate of the corresponding cost for the year 1951 will not be available until all the claims for wage increases have been determined.
