Vol. 124 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Caherciveen Electricity Supply.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the urgent necessity to extend the Electricity Supply Board service to Caherciveen; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question on the 7th December on this subject.

I am informed that the economic and technical factors which render difficult the extension of electricity supply to the Caherciveen area are at present being re-examined in detail by the Electricity Supply Board, in common with those affecting other localities remote from the board's main network, in order to discover, if possible, a satisfactory solution of the difficulties involved. It is not possible, however, to indicate at this stage when that examination will be completed or what the result may be.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary consider the fact that no industry of importance can be organised or established in Caherciveen until this current is made available, and if, in view of the new factor, namely, that a firm is now ready to establish an industry there, provided this current is made available, he will make further representation to the board in the matter?

I will convey the Deputy's representation to the Electricity Supply Board.
