Vol. 125 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creamery Workers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether workers in creameries engaged to the extent of more than 70 per cent. in evaporated milk, cheese and chocolate crumb production are correctly classed as creamery workers.

The only Orders relating to creamery workers in the administration of which I have a function are the Employment Regulation Order (Creameries Joint Labour Committee), 1949, which relates to wages, and the Conditions of Employment (Creameries) (Exclusion) Order, 1936, and the Conditions of Employment (Condensed Milk) (Exclusion) Order, 1936, which relate to hours of work.

In the enforcement of these Orders, I have taken the view that the Wages Order does not apply to workers engaged on the production of evaporated milk; that it does apply to cheese makers and chocolate crumb workers, and that all these three classes are covered in the Conditions of Employment Exclusion Orders.
