Vol. 125 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the very urgent housing needs of the area, he will sanction the proposal of the Donegal County Council to acquire a site in Clyhore, Ballyshannon, for the erection of cottages, since there are no alternative building sites available in the Clyhore district.

I have requested the Donegal County Council to furnish certain particulars in regard to the site proposed for acquisition at Clyhore. Pending receipt of those particulars, I am not in a position to say whether or not the proposed acquisition can be approved.

I can assure the Deputy, however, that full regard will be had to the urgency of the housing problem in the area by expediting a decision in the matter when the information which is now awaited has been submitted.

Is the Minister aware that in that area site after site during the past 20 years has been rejected and that this is the last site the Donegal County Council have to offer in this neighbourhood? In view of the deplorable housing conditions there, would he sanction this site because the Donegal County Council are satisfied that it is suitable in every respect?

Information on this matter is being sought and I do not think there will be very much further delay in getting that information.
