Vol. 125 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ban on Magazine.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state why Old Moore's Almanack has been banned.

A prohibition order in respect of the publication entitled Old Moore's Almanack, 1951, was made by the Censorship of Publications Board on the 9th March, 1951, on the grounds that the publication advocated the unnatural prevention of conception. Notice of the making of the order appeared in Iris Oifigiúil on the 20th March. The board had a special notice inserted in Iris Oifigiúil on the 6th April pointing out that the prohibition order should not be read as applying to a publication entitled The Genuine Irish Old Moore's Almanac. 1951.

Is the Minister aware of the fact that amongst the very helpful and useful information contained in Old Moore's Almanack is a complete list of the fairs and markets held throughout the country, which would be useful and helpful to Deputies in the event of an election campaign?

That can be got in the Irish edition, too.
