Vol. 126 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Baltimore Boat Sheds.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the acquisition of the boat sheds at Baltimore is complete and if he will authorise the proposed work of the Sea Fisheries Association in this area.

I understand that a contract to purchase the property mentioned by the Deputy has been signed on behalf of the Sea Fisheries Association who are arranging to have the premises refitted and reopened for boat construction and boat repair work.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary in a position to indicate whether the programme mooted, of immediate commencement of building of boats in Baltimore, will commence this year?

I cannot say that. All I can tell the Deputy is that the association was in possession of the place as recently as the 2nd June.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say, for the purpose of alleviating uneasiness in the Baltimore area, whether or not the Sea Fisheries Association propose to keep in employment the staff previously employed in the boat sheds at Baltimore.

I cannot answer the question, but I take it that is the purpose for which they were acquired.
