Vol. 127 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Potatoes.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that a number of the licensed potato buyers in East Donegal are purchasing all their quota requirements from the larger farmers and none at all from the small and conacre farmers; and, if so, if he will take steps to have this remedied by issuing licences to applicants who are prepared to deal with all farmers.

I am not so aware. Nearly one-third of the total number of licensed exporters are in Donegal and the great bulk of them operate in East Donegal. While I am not satisfied that an increase in the number of licensed exporters would be in the best interests of the industry, I have not refused to consider on its merits any application received for the issue of a new licence.
