Vol. 128 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Supply for County Donegal.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the Electricity Supply Board propose linking up Donegal town with the Electricity Supply Board supply.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that they have authorised the provision of a supply from their system in substitution for the existing supply and that preparations for the carrying out of this work are at present being made. It is expected that it will be possible to effect the changeover in the spring of 1952.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if and when the Electricity Supply Board propose having an official canvass in the Rosses, Gweedore and Cloughaneely areas of West Donegal.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the extension of supply to the Rosses, Gweedore and Cloughaneely areas of West Donegal can be considered only in conjunction with a major extension of the transmission system and the development of a hydro-electric scheme on the Clady River. This scheme is now being investigated as a definite project. Since there would be no possibility of extending supply to these areas within the next 12 months no useful purpose would be served by having an official canvass carried out in these areas at this stage.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the Electricity Supply Board propose extending their lines to the Ardara and Glenties districts of West Donegal.

I am informed that the Ardara and Glenties area has been provisionally selected for development under the rural electrification scheme contingent on the purchase by the board of the existing electricity undertakings at these places at an economic figure. The erection of the network in the area will be commenced as soon as possible following the satisfactory completion of the negotiations at present taking place for the purchase of these undertakings.
