Vol. 128 No. 1

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as on the Order Paper: Items 4, 5—Vote No. 72—7 and 11. With regard to Private Deputies' time, which I promised to give to-day in substitution for yesterday, I understand that it is not convenient for Deputy MacBride to go on with his motion to-day. We can make up for it at a later sitting. The Dáil is due to adjourn at 4.30, but I suggest that we decide on 4.30 p.m. or the end of questions, whichever is the later, as questions may run beyond 4.30.

As an additional precaution, if the business is finished before 3 o'clock, will questions then be taken?

I did not realise that Item 11 in the Order of Business was the Undeveloped Areas Bill. I made it quite clear, and I think the Parliamentary Secretary will agree with me, that I could not accept that Bill, unless it had been circulated for ten days, which meant that it would not be up for discussion until the first sitting day next week. I understood last night that we were to take Supplementary Estimate No. 72, and that then we were to go on to the other Supplementary Estimates.

I am not suggesting that I was misled. I must have misunderstood what was said. I made it clear that the Undeveloped Areas Bill, in our view, should be circulated for a period.

Of the business on the Order Paper, that is all that is ordered for to-day. There is a Supplementary Estimate—Vote No. 50, Industry and Commerce—but it is not included in the business to be completed before Christmas.

I must have made a mistake. I understood that the Fuel Subsidy Estimate—Vote No. 50—was coming on to-day.

No; it is not included in the business to be dealt with before Christmas.
