Vol. 128 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Central Bank Investments.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate specifically the amount of money invested by the Central Bank in long-term and short-term loans in (a) Ireland and (b) England, and the rate of interest earned in each case.

As stated in the reply to a question on 14th November, the investments of the Legal Tender Note Fund consist of British Government securities. The Central Bank is not required to publish any details of the securities held in its General Fund but I understand that in fact, no Irish securities are held. The bulk of the £27,000,000 of investments of the General Fund at 31st March last represented the temporary investment of American Loan Counterpart moneys which have since for the most part been withdrawn for investment in ways and means advances to the Exchequer.
