Vol. 128 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Laois Bog.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state if it is proposed to carry out the scheme of drainage on Monita bog in the townland of Reasy, near Mountmellick, and in the electoral division of Tinnahinch, County Laoighis, in view of the application made by all the tenants of turf-banks for the drainage of this bog.

I assume that the proposal referred to by the Deputy is that described in my office records as:—

"Widen and deepen drain in the townlands of Rearyvalley, Reary More and Reary Beg from John Dunne's land, Reary Beg, to Joseph Costelloe's land, Clonagh."

I do not propose to give a full-cost grant for the work in view of the limited quantity of turf produced in the area, but if the beneficiaries submit the case for consideration under the rural improvements scheme, which requires a contribution from the beneficiaries, the matter will receive careful consideration.
