Vol. 128 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sand Pier at Bere Island.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate when it is hoped to complete the sand pier at Bac-a-Lachan, Bere Island.

As the Deputy is aware, the execution of this work was undertaken in the summer of 1950, but was held up by an objection of the persons for whom it was being provided. The engineers of the county council and of the Office of Public Works are in agreement that the work as designed will give reasonably adequate facilities to the users of the landing place, and that the extension requested by them would, owing to the difficulties of the site, involve an expenditure out of all proportion to its utility.

The work already approved can be put in hands during the coming summer if the beneficiaries withdraw their opposition.
