Vol. 128 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Union Recognition.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will indicate the date on which application for national or official recognition was made to him or his Department by (a) the Post Office Engineering Union and the date on which such recognition was granted, and (b) the Post Office Clerical Association, and the reason for the delay in granting the requested recognition and when it may be expected.

The exact dates requested are not now available so far as the Irish Post Office Engineering Union is concerned, but that union has been recognised since 1923.

The Post Office Clerical Association applied on 27th August, 1951, for general recognition on behalf of certain grades for which another association is already recognised. Additional information had subsequently to be obtained from the Post Office Clerical Association. The conflicting claims of the two bodies are at present under examination. There are a number of points of difficulty to be settled yet before a decision can be given, but every effort will be made to give one as quickly as possible.
