Vol. 129 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Harbour Facilities (County Donegal).

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what progress has been made in the matter of the provision of harbour facilities at Glengad, County Donegal.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if agreement has been reached with the Donegal County Council on plans for the construction of facilities and shelters for fishing boats at Portaleen.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 131 and 132 together.

Agreement has not been reached on the conflicting views of the Donegal County Council and the Office of Public Works as to how the engineering problems involved in providing the necessary protection for fishing boats at Portaleen can be solved. I propose to meet at an early date a deputation from the Donegal County Council which I have been asked to receive in this connection.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that great improvements could be carried out at this port for a smaller sum than any estimated by the engineers? That being so, will the Parliamentary Secretary urge that a scheme be put into operation whereby, if total improvement cannot be carried out immediately, at least the work will be taken in stages?

All I can say is that I must leave opinions such as those which the Deputy has expressed to the engineers of the Department of Agriculture, the Office of Public Works and the Donegal County Council.
