Vol. 129 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Tourist Traffic.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what provisions are being made to deal with the tourist traffic at Dún Laoghaire and if he has satisfied himself that these provisions will be completed in time to prevent a repetition of last season's congestion.

Improvements of a temporary nature are being carried out by the Commissioners of Public Works at the Dún Laoghaire pier so that facilities for handling passengers for customs, etc., purposes will be available on the east side of the pier as well as on the west side. It is anticipated that these improvements will have been completed in time for the summer tourist traffic this year, and I am assured by British Railways that sufficient steamer sailings will be provided to cope adequately with the traffic offering. Discussions are still proceeding with British Railways about the sailings, but the arrangements contemplated include the provision of three outward evening sailings on days when traffic will be at its peak.

Will the Minister say what is the explanation for the delay in putting into operation the joint recommendations of Córas Iompair Éireann, British Railways and Government Departments which were submitted to the appropriate Department at the end of 1938?

I am afraid I do not know what the Deputy is talking about.

You never read them? I see.
