Vol. 130 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities (Works) Act.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that, whilst the urban area of Cobh receives its own grant under the Local Authorities (Works) Act and pays in its urban rates for the administration of it, it has received a demand from the Cork County Council for a sum of over £700 amounting to over 8d. in the £ on the urban ratepayers in connection with the administration of the Local Authorities (Works) Act in the county outside the urban area and that the same position obtains in the urban areas of Fermoy, Midleton and Youghal; and, if so, if he will take steps to amend the Public Bodies Order so as to end this unfair levy on urban ratepayers.

While I am not fully aware of the circumstances in which this demand was made, I do not think that it can relate to the cost of administration of the Act nor do I consider that an amendment of the Public Bodies Order is required. I shall have the matter taken up with the county council and the Deputy will be informed of the outcome.
