Vol. 132 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Water Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate what is the present position in regard to sanctioning the proposed water scheme for the villages of Malin and Culdaff, County Donegal.

Detailed plans and a specification for this scheme have recently been received from the sanitary authority and are under examination.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the towns Ballybofey, Stranorlar, Convoy, Castlefin, Ballindrait and Raphoe are in urgent need of suitable water supplies; and, if so, if he will take steps to expedite sanction for the Lough Mourne scheme.

The Lough Mourne waterworks scheme makes provision for water supplies to Convoy, Castlefin and Raphoe with a subsequent extension to serve Ballindrait. Detailed plans for the scheme were approved last December subject to certain amendments, but in view of recent amended proposals from the county council in regard to the reservoirs and pipe lines a further examination of the plans is now required. As regards Ballybofey and Stranorlar, investigations have shown that with minor improvements and proper maintenance the existing supply is adequate. The sanitary authority has provided for these improvements in the estimates for the current financial year.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether the Donegal County Council have been requested by his Department to submit a revised plan and also information regarding a water supply in respect of a site for labourers' cottages at Skeoge, Bridgend; and, if so, whether the county council have supplied the requested information; and, if not, if he will urge upon the county council the necessity for speeding up the preliminary work in connection with this housing scheme.

The Donegal County Council were requested by my Department on 28th April, 1952, to submit a revised house plan and also certain information regarding a water supply for a proposed housing scheme at Skeoge, Bridgend. The plan and the information requested have not yet been furnished. The council has been urged to arrange for the submission of the documents in question with the least possible delay.
