The information sought is as follows:— 1949, 70,000 tons; 1950, 75,000 tons; 1951, 200,000 tons. I am far from satisfied that the quantities used are sufficient, and I am disappointed that farmers have not taken greater advantage of the excellent terms on which they can obtain the necessary material. For not more than 16/- per ton they can have ground limestone delivered to their farms, the State bearing the cost of delivery. I would advise every farmer to order and spread ground limestone on grasslands in the next few months.

Payment of £182,763 1s. 5d. has already been made to Córas Iompair Éireann and of £46,686 16s. 2d. to Comhlucht Siuicre Éireann for the carriage of ground limestone under my Department's scheme.
