Vol. 132 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishing in Blackwater Estuary.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that summonses have been issued against a number of Youghal fishermen for the unlawful use of salmon drift nets within half a mile inwards from the mouth of the River Blackwater; and, further, that from time immemorial Youghal fishermen have fished these waters and that if they are compelled to go outside the harbour in bad weather lives may be lost; and if, having regard to these facts, he proposes to have these summonses withdrawn.

I understand that summonses have been issued at the instance of the Lismore Board of Conservators against a number of Youghal fishermen for using nets for the capture of salmon within a half mile of the defined mouth of the River Blackwater, but I have no authority to decide that the summonses be withdrawn.
