asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the passenger coaches on the Cavan and Leitrim railway are in a state of dilapidation; and, if so, whether he will request Córas Iompair Éireann to replace these vehicles; and, further, in pursuance of the policy of decentralisation of industry, if he will recommend that the replacements be constructed in the local shops at Ballinamore to afford employment to local workers.

While this is not a matter in which I have any function, I have made inquiries from Córas Iompair Éireann and have been informed that they are arranging to replace some of the passenger coaches on the Cavan-Leitrim section. The board has also informed me that, owing to certain technical difficulties, it has not been found possible to have this work carried out locally.
