Vol. 134 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Production Costs Committee.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what progress has been made by the milk production costs committee, and when he expects to receive their report.

Mr. Walsh

The chairman of the committee has informed me that it will not be possible for the committee to continue with the investigation, because of a difference of opinion among the members on a question of definition.

What about getting the Oxford Dictionary?

Will the Minister give the reason for the difference of opinion?

Mr. Walsh

There is a difference of opinion in the committee and at this stage I do not wish to disclose it.

Would the Minister consider calling in Deputy Burke?

I would like to know whether this arose through certain members of the committee refusing to allow interest on capital and management expenses going to the expenses sheet in regard to the cost of production of milk?

Mr. Walsh

There were a number of differences and that one was included among them. I am not in a position to disclose the source.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I wish to raise this matter on the Adjournment.

Will Deputy Cogan join in?

Deputy Cogan will join in on that.
