Vol. 135 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Censorship of Publications Board.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that a daily newspaper in a sub-leader appearing in its issue of the 17th October, 1952, condemns the action of the Censorship of Publications Board in prohibiting a certain book, proceeds to give what purports to be a synopsis of the book, and calls on the Appeal Board to reverse this decision of the Censorship of Publications Board thereby attempting to influence or prejudice the decision of the Appeal Board which is tantamount to contempt of court; and, if so, if he will state what action he has taken, or proposes to take, in the matter.

Mr. Boland

This is not a case of contempt of court and it is not open to me to take any action in the matter.

Surely the Minister is aware that something has got to be done if a district justice offends in this way. Does the Minister propose to take any action or to have his views conveyed to the district justice?

I have called Question No. 40.

It deals with the same matter.

Mr. Boland

It is not a case of contempt of court. It is not open to me to take any action as far as I can see.
