Vol. 135 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remuneration of Kerry Rate Collector.

Mr. Lynch

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether he has received a proposal from the Kerry County Council for an increase in the remuneration of the rate-collector in charge of the collection of rates for the entire county so that he will receive the same remuneration as his predecessors; and, if so, if he will indicate what decision he has given in the matter and the reasons for his decision.

A proposal to place this officer on the same salary scale as his predecessor was received and sanctioned. The local authority proposed to place him on this scale at a point substantially above that permitted by rules which have been in operation for many years. I could not agree to this departure.
