Vol. 135 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sailors' and Soldiers' Land Trust.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that there is considerable dissatisfaction amongst tenants of Irish Sailors' and Soldiers' Land Trust houses with regard to the terms proposed by the Trust for the purchase of their houses and particularly on account of the fact that the purchase price will be determined by the Trust alone and sales will be arranged by means of a lease for a term of years with a prohibition against alienation and whether he will either take up the matter with the British Government or introduce suitable proposals for legislation.

I am not so aware. The sale of these houses is authorised by recent legislation of the British Parliament to implement an agreement which was the subject of a public announcement on 8th May, 1951. The question of the introduction of legislation here does not arise.
