Vol. 136 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tuberculosis Allowances.

Mr. A. Byrne

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that in November, 1952, the Dublin Corporation health committee recommended that (a) the increases granted under the Social Welfare Act, 1952, should be disregarded in the assessment and payment of allowances to tuberculosis dependents eligible for such allowances under the domiciliary allowances (maintenance) regulations, and (b) recipients of allowances who are not insured persons under the National Insurance Acts should receive allowances equal to the amounts that would be paid to insured persons, and if he has sanctioned the proposals to increase these allowances.

I have received the recommendation to which the Deputy refers and I have replied to the Dublin Corporation directing attention to the substantial increase in the rates of maintenance allowance provided for when the relevant regulations were revised in October last.

Mr. A. Byrne

Does that mean the Minister has not approved of the recommendation?

I have not, no.
