Vol. 136 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commemoration Stamps.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, with reference to his reply to my previous question to the effect that it was proposed to issue postage stamps commemorating the 150th anniversary of the death of Robert Emmet, he will indicate the denominations of stamps proposed to be allotted for this purpose and ensure that they will be on sale in June next; and, further, if he will consider having a stamp to commemorate the death of Thomas Russell, in view of that patriot's standing and almost co-equal associations with Emmet.

Mr. Boland

A final decision in regard to the issue of a stamp to commemorate the death of Robert Emmet has not yet been reached and I am not in a position, therefore, to reply to the first and second parts of the Deputy's question.

It is not proposed to commemorate the death of Thomas Russell by the issue of a special stamp.

Would he ensure that these stamps are a little shorter and more suitable for putting on envelopes?
