Vol. 138 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Sligo and Leitrim Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (1) the total acreage in the possession of the Land Commission at the moment in the Counties Sligo and Leitrim for distribution; (2) the names and the number of estates at present let by the Land Commission for grazing or tillage, and (3) the approximate date the Land Commission proposes to divide the latter among suitable allottees.

The Land Commission have on hands 5,154 acres of land on 70 estates or holdings in Counties Sligo and Leitrim. The greater part of this area is bog, mountain or waste land, being the remnants of estates already partly allotted. Some 1,200 acres only are arable or good grazing land. All the lands on hands have been or will be let as far as possible for the current season. Complete returns of lettings to date are not yet available but indications are that at least one-fifth of the arable lands have been let in conacre. It would not be desirable to give the detailed particulars sought in the question, but if the Deputy has any particular estate in mind and communicates with me, I will see what can be done.
