Vol. 138 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Sligo Regional Water Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department has decided not to proceed with the Dromore West, County Sligo, regional water scheme as sanctioned by the Sligo County Council; and, if so, if he will state the reasons.

The decision as to whether a water supply shall be provided in any area rests with the sanitary authority and not with my Department.

The regional scheme referred to was intended to supply a considerable areafrom a source at Culleens which at present serves Easky and is proposed as a supplement to the Enniscrone supply during the summer months. The yield from this source has, however, been found only sufficient to supply the needs of Easky and Enniscrone. An alternative source of supply for the Quigabar-Finnod area must, therefore, be sought and the appointment of a consultant for this purpose was approved on 27th March last.
