Vol. 139 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of Clondalaune Flour Mills.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that it was understood by the workers in the Clondalaune flour mills, Fermoy, that a conference had been arranged between him and the chairman of the Cork milling company for the purpose of discussing the position arising out of the closing of the Clondalaune flour mills and if he will state the result of the conference if it has taken place; and, if not, whether and when it is intended to hold such conference.

I had a conference with the chairman of the company. I asked him to have the position in regard to the closing of the mill reconsidered by the board. I understand that the company has not yet come to a final decision in the matter. As I indicated in reply to another question on the same subject on May 7th, if it is decided not to resume milling at Clondalaune mills I will be prepared to consider the issue of a licence to any suitable applicant willing to undertake milling in the same area.
