Vol. 141 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Development in Donegal.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if the E.S.B. has carried out its investigations to determine the exact location of the proposed turf fired electricity generating station near Dungloe, County Donegal, and if the board has reached any decision on the matter.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that, while the exact location of this station is still to be determined, it will be located within about one mile of Gweedore village.

Could the Minister indicate when the decision will be reached as to the village or townlandin which the station will be erected?

I cannot do that yet.

Does the Tánaiste now state that one mile from Gweedore is in the vicinity of Dungloe as we were informed on a previous occasion?

That is a matter of opinion.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the fact that the E.S.B. has approved a scheme for the hydro-electric development of the Clady River, Gweedore, County Donegal, he will state when work will commence on this Gaeltacht project.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the contract for the civil constructional work on the hydro-electric development scheme on the River Clady will probably be placed before the end of this year in order that work on the project may commence not later than the spring of 1954.
