asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that a recent increase of salary has been granted to nurses employed in sanatoria hospitals which has not been granted to ward sisters in those hospitals; and, if so, if he will take steps to have the same increase granted to the latter.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries of Sanatoria Sisters.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Social Welfare (Mr. Kennedy) (for the Minister for Health)
As an interim arrangement, pending a general decision regarding the upward revision of the temporary bonus payable to local authority staffs, local authorities were authorised to grant a small increase to certain junior staffs, including nurses below the rank of ward sister.
I have since authorised all localauthorities which have submitted proposals to me to grant increased bonus payments, with effect from a date not earlier than 1st April last, to members of their staffs in the bonus group for whom I am the appropriate Minister, without distinction as to grade.
