Vol. 141 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - County Kerry Water Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the date proposals were received in his Department from Kerry County Council in connection with proposals for a water scheme for the village of Lixnaw; and, if so, when work on the scheme is likely to start.

Contract documents for this scheme were received on the 21st May, 1951, and were approved in July, 1951. The local authority have been unable to acquire the necessary lands and water rights by agreement and tenders cannot be invited for the work until these matters are disposed of.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state if his Department received proposals from the Kerry County Council in connection with a new water scheme for the village of Ballyheigue; and, if so, if he will now state when the work is likely to be advertised for tenders.

Revised detailed plans and estimate for this scheme were received from the sanitary authority on 29th May last. They showed a very great increase over the estimated cost and an explanation has been sought.

I am not in a position to indicate when tenders may be invited. It will be necessary for the local authority to submit a specification and bill of quantities and to acquire any rights necessary.
