Vol. 141 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Bounty Payments on Farmers' Butter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what quantity of farmers' butter qualified for bounty payments during the year ended 31st March, 1953 and from 31st March, 1953 to date.

Mr. Walsh

The quantity of farmers' butter on which subsidy was paid during the year ended 31st March, 1953, was 7,820 cwt. approximately. The subsidy scheme was discontinued as from 5th July, 1952 when the subsidation of the price of creamery butter to consumers ceased.

Perhaps Deputy Allen would now stand up and cheer.

Mr. Walsh

Deputy Allen knows the price of butter is much higher than when you were in office.

The whole country knows it.

Mr. Walsh

There is no 1/- a gallon now.
