Vol. 142 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry River Embankments.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state if his Department received a petition from the Tralee Urban District Council on behalf of the residents and landowners of Ballyyard and Blennerville districts in connection with repairs to the embankment in the River Lee and the cleaning of the river; and, if so, if it has been considered by his Department and if he will now state the amount of grant his Department is prepared to allocate to have this very urgent work carried out.

The Commissioners of Public Works recently received representations in this matter from the Tralee Urban District Council. The work referred to could be undertaken by the commissioners only as part of a comprehensive drainage scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945 for the River Lee catchment area. I am not in a position to say when such a scheme can be undertaken.
