Vol. 142 No. 9

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order:— No. 6 (Votes 50 and 51 Supplementary Estimate, 52, 53 and 67) and No. 9. Private Deputies' business will be taken at 9.30 p.m.

I am obliged to the Tánaiste. I forgot to give notice about No. 10.

Will the Tánaiste say when it is proposed to take No. 5?

It is proposed to set up a committee to deal with workmen's compensation which will begin some time in this session but I could not name the date.

That is, before Christmas?

Can the Tánaiste give any indication about No. 8?

The present intention is that I will try to get a Second Reading of this Bill this session and leave the Committee Stage over till after Christmas. This is hardly the type of Bill that lends itself to a Second Reading debate, and a long time should be allowed to interested parties to consider its provisions before proposing amendments to it.

Would you consider the desirability of allowing the Committee Stage to be dealt with by a special committee?

Recent experience does not show that that is a saving of time, but I will consider it.

I think it is the reverse.

Members will not attend special committees. That is the trouble.

Would the Tánaiste give us, say, a week's notice of the date on which it is proposed to take the Second Reading?
