Vol. 143 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Statement on Garda Refresher Course.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state whether a number of recently-recruited Gardaí were called to the Depot for a refresher course during which grave dissatisfaction arose resulting in some members leaving the force or being asked to leave; and, if so, if he will make a statement in the matter.

Mr. Boland

Gardaí, to the number of 170 who had been allocated to the Dublin Metropolitan Division earlier this year, were brought back to the Depot in October for a fortnight's refresher course. The commissioner is not aware of any dissatisfaction in relation to the course. Two recruits left the service—one to take up employment in civil life. The other was discharged by the commissioner under the Garda Síochána (Appointments) Regulations, 1945, as not likely to become an efficient and well-conducted Garda.
