Vol. 145 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Sea-Wall.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the recent gales destroyed the sea protection wall at Leabgarrow, Arranmore, County Donegal; and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to have the wall restored before irreparable damage is done to the dwelling-houses at Leabgarrow.

Employment schemes grants were made in 1936-37 for the repair and extension of a protection wall near Leabgarrow Pier. A further grant was authorised in this winter's programme of works to protect the foundations of this wall and the work has since been satisfactorily completed. The existing wall is, I am informed, in good condition.

I understand, however, that the wall does not extend over the whole length of foreshore adjacent to the houses and what the householders now require is that it should be extended to give further protection to the houses. I shall arrange for an inspection and report on this matter as soon as possible.
