Vol. 145 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Tea.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether on the winding up of Tea Importers, Limited, merchants will be permitted to import tea freely into this country without any restrictions; and if he will make a general statement in the matter.

The form of the legislation that will be required to deal with tea imports is being discussed with the interests concerned. As I have already informed the Dáil, it is proposed to frame the legislation to give the maximum freedom to individual Irish traders to operate in the normal way, while at the same time giving effect to the policy of ensuring that tea supplies are purchased and imported direct from the producing countries.
