Vol. 147 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Public Transport.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will detail the proposals which are before his Department for the reorganisation of the public transport system in County Donegal, and if he will consult the Donegal County Council before arriving at a final decision in the matter.

The question of public transport in County Donegal is under examination. Pending completion of this examination, I am not in a position to make any statement in the matter at present.

No final decisions will be taken until local interests have been afforded an opportunity of expressing their views.

Can the Minister at this stage, without committing himself to the proposals, give any indication to the House as to what proposals are before his Department at present?

This whole question was discussed by my predecessor with our nominees on the G.N.R. Board in August, 1953, and it was subsequently decided that no action should be taken until such time as the board had an opportunity of considering the matter. It was then indicated that it was unlikely that any report from that board would be received before the end of this year and in the absence of the report I would not like, at this stage, to express any opinion on the matter.

Can I take it from the Minister's reply that there are no proposals or report before him at the moment?

The report has not yet reached us.

It has not yet reached ministerial level?
