Vol. 147 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Waterworks.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) when the tenders for Dunkineely and Donegal waterworks were submitted to his Department for approval, (b) whether approval has yet been given, and (c) the cause of the delay in issuing sanction.

Proposals for the acceptance of tenders for Dunkineely and Donegal town water supply schemes were received originally in my Department on 19th July and 3rd August last, respectively, but as they were made contingent on somewhat unusual conditions they had to be referred back for further consideration.

The acceptance of a tender for the Dunkineely scheme was approved on the 30th October. The proposals in the case of Donegal were resubmitted on the 29th ultimo and are being examined in the light of the further information then furnished.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary not agree there was undue delay in approving of these schemes?

There is no undue delay on the part of the Department since I went in there so far as these cases are concerned.

Is it not a fact that the Department had at their disposal in the first consideration of the Donegal tender all the information that they now require for its further consideration and that, in view of that, there would not appear to be any reason for the holding-up or rejection, whichever the case may be?
