Vol. 147 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the E.S.B. propose to extend rural electrification to the Killasser area, Swinford, County Mayo.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Killasser area has been considered by them on a number of occasions for development under the rural electrification scheme, but that it has not so far been selected as its returns have not compared favourably with those of other areas still awaiting development in the board's Sligo district. The selection of the area will be considered again by the board, but I am not in a position to state when development is likely to take place.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the E.S.B. propose to extend rural electrification to the Toomore area, Foxford, County Mayo.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that it is expected that an official canvass of the householders in the Toomore area will be carried out next autumn as soon as canvasses have been carried out in areas from which prior applications for supply have been received. I am not in a position to state when the development of the area is likely to take place.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the E.S.B. propose to extend rural electrification to the Attymass-Bonniconlon area, North Mayo.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Attymass area, which includes Bonniconlon, has been considered by them on a number of occasions for development under the rural electrification scheme, but that it has not, so far, been selected as its returns have not compared favourably with those of other areas still awaiting development in the board's Sligo district. The selection of the area will be considered by the board again, but I am not in a position to state when development is likely to take place.

Seán Mac Eochagáin

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether the E.S.B. propose to extend rural electrification to the Aran Islands, and, if so, when.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that it would not be practical or economic to extend electricity supply to the Aran Islands from the national network.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the E.S.B. propose to extend rural electrification to the Newtown, Carroll's Cross and Ballyduff areas, County Waterford.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that an official canvass of the residents of Carroll's Cross area, County Waterford, which includes Newtown and Ballyduff, is being carried out by the board and is expected to be completed early next year. When the results of the canvass are available the area will be considered for development under the rural electrification scheme but I am not in a position to state when this development is likely to take place.

Seán Mac Eochagáin

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether the E.S.B. propose to extend rural electrification from Moycullen to Roscahill via Tullycoyne and Killone, County Galway, and, if so, when.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Killannin area, County Galway, in which the region from Moycullen to Roscahill via Tullycoyne and Killone is included, will be considered by them about March of next year for development under the rural electrification scheme.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the E.S.B. propose to extend rural electrification to the Anglesboro area, County Limerick.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Anglesboro area has been considered on two occasions this year for development under the rural electrification scheme but that it has not yet been selected as its returns have not compared favourably with those of other areas awaiting development in the board's Limerick district.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the E.S.B. propose to extend rural electrification to the Galbally area, County Limerick.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Galbally area has been considered by the board on a number of occasions for development under the rural electrification scheme but that it has not so far been selected as its returns have not compared favourably with those of other areas still awaiting development in the board's Limerick district.
