Vol. 147 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increased Pensions for National Teachers.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether he proposes to introduce proposals for legislation to increase the pensions of national teachers who retired prior to 1950, and, if so, when.

No proposals for legislation to increase the pensions of national teachers who retired prior to 1950 are under consideration.

Might I ask the Minister, in connection with matters generally, would he agree that, on the question of retiring gratuities, the pre-1950 pension teachers should be put on the same footing as the post-1950 pension teachers?

I am answering a question with regard to an increase in pensions.

The Minister is aware of what is meant.

The other is a different matter in respect of which a certain amount of gratuity was given under the superannuation scheme Order arranged last year, but further than that I am not in a position to say anything.
