Vol. 147 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefits: Reciprocal Arrangements.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider opening negotiations with the British Government with a view to concluding an agreement whereby reciprocal arrangements will be made to enable Irish citizens, who have returned to this country from Great Britain and become the recipients of unemployment insurance benefits here, to receive full credit for employment insurance contributions made in that country.

The existing reciprocal agreement with Great Britain in relation to unemployment benefit was among the subjects discussed at the conference on reciprocal arrangements held in the month of October last.

Negotiations are proceeding for the revision of this agreement with a view to improving if possible the amount of unemployment benefit payable in this country on the strength of the contributions paid in Great Britain.
