asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the necessity for repairing the bog road at Bohocogram in the electoral division of Castlecove, County Kerry, and, if so, if he will allocate a grant for the work.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to a bog road in the townland of Bohocogram which may be described as leading from the Bohocogram accommodation road near Dan Breen's house north to end of bogs in David Fitzgerald's land. Full cost grants were sanctioned for this work under minor employment schemes in 1942-43 and again in 1949-50 but the grants had to be cancelled as one of the landholders whose interests would be affected refused on both occasions to permit the work to proceed.
Would it be possible to carry on the work and extend it to the boundary of this man's holding because the people concerned cannot remove turf from the area adjacent to the county road? If the Parliamentary Secretary could see his way to allocating a grant for the reconstruction of the road to that particular point, that would give relief to the people concerned by enabling them to remove their turf from that area.
As the Deputy was informed, this man owns the land and he has decided that he will not have the road; we cannot, therefore, interfere with it.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether a decision has yet been reached in regard to the extent of the special financial provision, which will be made for the repair and construction of bog roads in South Kerry to enable turf producers to supply the turf-fired generating station at Caherciveen during the coming year, and, if so, if he will indicate the nature of such decision.
A decision on the extent to which special financial provision will require to be made for the improvement of bog roads referred to by the Deputy has not yet been reached.
