Vol. 147 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the wages of road workers employed by the Kerry County Council are to be increased by 10/- a week with effect from 1st April, 1954, and, if so, if he will state whether it is proposed to grant a similar increase to workers employed by his Department on the Feale drainage scheme, rural improvement schemes, minor employment schemes and bog development schemes in County Kerry.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative.

Unskilled workers on minor employment, bog development and rural improvement schemes administered by the special employment schemes office are being given a similar increase.

The rates of wages of labourers employed on arterial drainage schemes, including the Feale, are not directly related to the wages of county council road workers.
