Vol. 147 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Housing Subsidies.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of each of the financial years 1949-1950 to 1953-1954, inclusive, and 1954-1955 to date: (a) the total amounts paid by his Department to the Cork Corporation by way of subsidy in respect of housing schemes, (b) the balances still due, (c) the reasons for the delay in the payment of these balances, and (d) when final payments will be made.

As the reply contains a tabular statement it is proposed, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated in the Official Report.

(b) It is estimated that contributions towards loan charges amounting to approximately £65,000 will be payable to Cork Corporation in respect of schemes for which claims have now been completed.

(c) It was not possible to compute the sums payable until letting certificates and final costings had been submitted by the corporation in the case of completed housing schemes. Some letting certificates were furnished in September, 1953, and the balance in February, 1954. Final costings were submitted in September, 1954, together with revised claims for subsidy covering the period from 1949-50. Payments on account were made annually to the corporation pending receipt of these particulars.

(d) Outstanding balances will be discharged when the audit of the finalised accounts has been completed.
