Vol. 147 No. 11

Supplementary Estimates, 1954-55— Leave to introduce.

I move:—

That leave be given by the Dáil to introduce the following Supplementary Estimates for the service of the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1955, namely:—

Votes No.—

27 (Agriculture),

38 (Local Government),

59 (International Co-operation).

The Government believes that the Shannon and Tolka floods are the two focal points of greatest distress arising from the recent flooding. Accordingly I am asking that the Dáil grants leave to introduce two Supplementary Estimates to deal with these two focal points. It is, of course, as yet impossible to ascertain the exact extent of the distress and, accordingly, the Estimates, which will be circulated at once, and which will be taken to-morrow, I hope, with the leave of the House are token Estimates. At the same time may I indicate that the Government considers that distress in any other area should be alleviated by the Irish Red Cross Society and the Government has given directions to the society accordingly?

Leave granted; the Estimates to be taken to-morrow.
