Vol. 148 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilmore Quay Fishermen.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is prepared to issue a licence to the cooperative society of fishermen at Kilmore Quay to transport their catches direct to the marketing centre in their own lorries.

The conditions governing the issue of new merchandise licences by the Minister for Industry and Commerce are contained in Section 12 of the Road Transport Act, 1933, and Section 115 of the Transport Act, 1944. From the information available to me these conditions do not appear to be fulfilled in the case of the application made on behalf of the society of fishermen at Kilmore Quay. I am, however, making further inquiries and will consider the application again in the light of the result of these inquiries.

Will the Minister, when he is making these inquiries, take into consideration the fact that there is no C.I.E. transport available in that area?

That is one of the matters that will be inquired into.
