Vol. 148 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballinasloe Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the lowest tender for contract for the housing scheme at Garbally demesne, Ballinasloe, County Galway, was not accepted by the county manager although the urban district council was agreeable to sanction the lowest tender, and, if so, if he will made a statement in the matter.

I am aware that the Galway County Manager, acting on the advice of the consultant architect and the town surveyor employed by Ballinasloe Urban Council, accepted the second lowest tender received by the council for a housing scheme at Garbally demesne. The urban council convened a special meeting on 3rd August, 1954, with a view to directing the manager, in pursuance of Section 29 of the County Management Act, 1940, to accept the lowest tender. Having heard the manager's explanation of the position the council decided not to direct him to accept the lowest tender. The county manager's proposal in the matter was sanctioned on 3rd November last, after full and careful consideration.
