Vol. 149 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Meath Farms.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission propose to allocate the two farms on the Brady estate, Spiddal, Nobber, County Meath, to local uneconomic holders.

I can only assure the Deputy that the applications of uneconomic holders living in the vicinity of this estate are being most sympathetically examined.

Does the Minister suggest that the Land Commission has advertised the erection of buildings on this farm and has not yet decided to whom the land is to be given when the buildings are erected?

That is the usual practice when the Land Commission takes over a farm; it decides how much will go to migrants and how much is needed for the relief of local congestion. Long before the lands are allotted or assigned to migrants or local congests they go ahead with the buildings.

He will listen and learn.

Listening and learning, is the Minister aware that a different type of building is erected where migrants are being brought in? In this case there is no doubt at all to whom the land is going, but the Land Commission are not prepared to state so publicly.
